Tombs of the Kings, Paphos
Cyprus
Located in the Eastern Mediterranean, south of Turkey, lies the pretty island of Cyprus.  With its beautiful sun-kissed beaches, sub tropical climate, history and culture, and vibrant club scene in Asia Napa it makes a great holiday destination.

Following the partition of the island in 1976 the Northern part of  remains very Turkish in its roots and is well known for its stunning beaches while the Southern part of the Island is inherently Greek and is a popular choice for holidays with its range of historical sights.  Cyprus used to be a British Colony and there are plenty of telltale signs reminiscent of this.

Paphos in the west is a lovely spot.  It has an amazing 27 beaches locally all with clear water and many with soft sand.  Away from the beaches the archeological sights are well worth a visit. Kourion is probably the most important site on the island and the Kato Archeological Park has incredible Roman mosaics.  Paphos town has a relaxed holiday vibe and there are lots of good bars and restaurants to choose from.  Less than an hour from Paphos is
Limossol which has a beautiful 7km stretch of beach.

East of the island is the resort of Ayia Napa with is pretty beach, charming town and infamous nightlife.  There are also quieter resorts such as Protaras and Nissi Beach both with lovely shallow beaches and buzzing centres.

Cyprus appeals to a wide audience it's also a child friendly destination offering plenty to do with toddlers and older children.  It's a destination which offers some attractive package deals with some good quality resorts and hotels.

Travel to and in Cyprus
Flights from the UK go to Larnica and Paphos and take around 4 and a half hours.  Getting around the island is easy either in a hire car (take care though as Cyprus does not have a great road safety record) or taxi.  There is a good bus network but check the timetables out of season - this website is packed with great Cyprus bus travelling information.  Bikes are available to hire all over the island and are a good way to get about locally.  There are no trains or internal flights on the island.

By sea from Turkey or Greece
If you want to take the train from the UK you will need to have lots of time as it takes at least 5 days! but it is possible.  See here for details.
