This is some of the really handy stuff I've found out about travelling with babies and kids that I thought would be useful to share!
Many baby items including milk and nappies can be ordered online at Boots and then collected at the airport once you have checked in and gone through security. Just remember to have some space in your luggage to fit it all in! For more information see here
Most airlines let you check in 2 items of baby equipment for free. This could be a pram/pushchair, car seat or travel cot. Most airlines let you keep the pushchair with you right up to the door of the plane. Just be aware that you often don't see it again until luggage collection in you arrival airport. You can buy covers for car seats and pushchair which not only protect them but lets you pack a few extra things too! Here are some more details about what is included when flying with an infant.
If you need to take a travel cot there are some really clever fold up ones available which hardly take up any space. Have a look at
BABYBJÖRN Travel Cot, BlackLittlelife travel cot
A sling can be great for travelling you have a baby or young child. Many parents use it during the flight to settle babies and when you land and don't get your pushchair back for a while it's great to have your hands free and you child safe. Slings can be tried and often hired from many sling libraries around the country. Here is a link to a list for London sling libraries but they can be found in many other towns too.
To prevent little ears from popping on take off or landing breast or bottle feeding babies can be really helpful. For older children lollypops are a winner all round! You can buy sugar free ones from Holland and Barrett. (Also handy for those moments when you just need a bit of peace and quiet!)
