6 great town/beach combos

A great beach/town combo makes for a brilliant holiday especially if you have a group of travellers who like doing different things on holiday.  In our family we all love a bit of beach action but it's great to take a break and have nice restaurants, a bit of shopping and a few other distractions to while away the time.  So here are a few of my favourite places where you can enjoy beach life and town life in equal measures and in walking distance from one another.

ESSAOUIRA, MOROCCO - a massive sweeping beach with a wonderful town at the end which is great for shopping, eating and soaking up the Moroccan way of life.

KESWICK, UK - on the shores of Derwentwater, set in spectacular scenery this pretty little market town has lots to see and do.

ELAFONISOS, GREECE - beautiful little harbour town with a sandy bay for swimming which buzzes in the hot summer evenings with holiday makers.

PENISCOLA, SPAIN - A 5km long sandy beach lined with hotels, shops and restaurants and an amazing walled town perched at the end.

CEFALU, SICILY - traditional Italian town with a wonderful cathedral and cobbled streets right next to a sandy bay.

SAL REI, CAPE VERDE - dinky town with some lovely restaurants, a traditional craft market and colourful houses all surrounded by white sand beaches.
